The Digital Commonwealth portal brings together cultural heritage collections held in museums, colleges and libraries across Massachusetts. Sourcelab built this website and complex database from scratch and designed the visual ID to represent the essence of the commonwealth. more...
We added a Google Maps mashup to give the site a more visual navigation, allowing users to select historic materials from a map interface of the state. The map automatically updates itself as new materials are indexed and added to the repository.
Designing the information architecture was a major challenge as we were dealing with multiple record types and we worked carefully to convert expanded and redundant library records into more user friendly formats.
